Why This Overnight Oats With Frozen Fruit Recipe Is The Best!

I love making different flavors of overnight oats. There are endless possibilities for this nutritious breakfast. Overnight oats with frozen fruit is a great way to make creamy overnight oats when fresh produce isn't available or fresh berries are out of season.

Overnight oats are made with simple ingredients and are easily adaptable for most diets. If you are wanting a vegan recipe use a plant-based milk and pure maple syrup for sweetener. If you follow a gluten-free diet make sure to by certified gluten-free oats.

Regardless of your preferences this great recipe is one of the easiest ways to make breakfast. It is the perfect make-ahead breakfast for a busy week.

    Equipment Needed

mason jars- are the perfect storage container for overnight oats, but any single serving container will work.

    Key Ingredients

old-fashioned oats- are also called rolled oats. This variety of oat is perfect for overnight oats because they soften by the next morning but still have a bit of texture and chew. Instant oats are more processed than old-fashioned oats and become a bit too soft when soaked so I do not recommend them for overnight oats. Steel cut oats are less processed than rolled oats and do not soften enough without cooking and are also not the best choice for overnight oats.

frozen fruit- I like mixed berries for my overnight oats but you could use tropical fruits too. Use your fruit of choice.

Ingredients needed for overnight oats with frozen fruit.

    Step-By-Step Instructions

Add the milk, oats, chia seeds, cinnamon, and honey to a bowl. Stir well to incorporate all of the ingredients.

Add a half cup of frozen fruit to the oat mixture.

    Mixing the ingredients together.

Divide the mixture into individual serving jars. Mason jars work perfectly for overnight oat recipes. Top with more frozen berries if desired.

Secure the lid and place the containers of oats in the refrigerator overnight or for at least 4 hours.

Adding the oat mixture to a mason jar and topping with frozen berries.

    Serving Suggestions

I like to eat my overnight oats cold with an extra drizzle of honey. If I add nuts or granola I add that before eating so they stay crunchy! Peanut butter and almond butter is also delicious on creamy oats.

    Storage Recommendations

I love to meal prep overnight oats because I can portion them into single serving size containers. Mason jars are perfect for storing overnight oats but any airtight container will work.

    Substitutions And Additions

frozen fruit- any frozen fruit will work in this recipe. Just remember to add small pieces of fruit that will be easy to eat when it thaws. Frozen whole strawberries are usually too large and may need to be thawed to cut in half.

Of course you can always make this same recipe with fresh fruit it you prefer.

milk- I always have unsweetened almond milk on hand, however you can use soy milk, cashew milk, coconut milk or oat milk.

honey- adds just a little extra sweetness to the overnight oatmeal. You can also use a little maple syrup or agave syrup to make this a vegan recipe.

peanut butter- nut butter or seed butter is always a great addition to this easy overnight oats recipe.

protein powder- I do like to add a scoop of vanilla protein powder to my overnight oat recipe. It gives it an extra protein boost. My protein overnight oats recipe gives tips for adding this to the recipe.

The mason jars with overnight oats with frozen berries.

Can You Heat Up Overnight Oats?

Yes! Even though overnight oats are meant to be eaten cold you can heat them. Microwave for 60-90 seconds or until oats are warmed through.

    Can You Freeze Overnight Oats?

Yes! Overnight oats can be frozen in freezer safe containers for up to 3 months. To thaw the oats, place in the refrigerator overnight.

Normally I don’t post reviews, but this was just that good! I need protein so I swapped the honey for protein powder. Yum! Definitely a keeper!
