Why You'll Love Cottage Cheese Cookie Dough!
I have been on a bit of a cottage cheese kick lately. I am obsessed with blended cottage cheese because there is just so many things you can make with it! Like this cottage cheese edible cookie dough, that went viral on TikTok curtsey of recipe developer, Jake Cohen.
I must admit I was a bit skeptical at first, but I figured since the blended cottage cheese recipe is so easy to make and then all you need to do is stir in the almond flour and chocolate chips to make this protein-packed snack, I'd give it a shot.
I must say I was amazed at the results. It had a dough consistency like regular cookie dough. Plus the other ingredients masked the flavor of cottage cheese to the point it was not detectable.
This edible cookie dough recipe is perfect for anyone looking for a great way to add extra protein to their diet or satisfy a sweet tooth with healthier alternatives. Even without protein powder this amazing dessert has 13 grams of protein per serving!

Equipment Needed
food processor- or high power blender will quickly blend the small curds into a smooth consistency.
Key Ingredients
cottage cheese- use whole milk cottage cheese for the best texture and results. You can always experiment with low-fat cottage cheese but I think the fat helps give the recipe that extra creamy texture.
almond flour- is ground almonds that have a flour like texture. Almond flour is perfect for cookie dough because it can be eaten "raw" unlike all-purpose flour that needs to be heated to kill germs that can cause food poising. It is also low carb, naturally gluten-free and has a good amount of protein.
vanilla extract- Adds a little of that cookie dough flavor.
honey- 2 tablespoons adds just enough sweetness to resemble the flavor of cookie dough. You can always add more to suite your tastes.
Step-By-Step Instructions
Add cottage cheese, honey and vanilla extract to the base of a food processor. Blend until smooth. Make sure to remove the lid and scrape the sides and bottom of the base to make sure everything blends well and no curds of cheese remain.
Pour the blended cottage cheese mixture into a mixing bowl and add almond flour (if using protein powder add that too).
Stir well to combine into a creamy dough and add in the chocolate chips.
How To Eat Edible Cookie Dough
When I was a kid, we would eat traditional cookie dough straight out of the bowl, licking our fingers (and no I never had salmonella). Now, as an adult I use a spoon and dig in!
I prefer this edible cottage cheese cookie dough recipe after it has been in the refrigerator for a few hours. I think the texture is better and it gives it more time for the flavors to develop.
This is not meant to be baked into cottage cheese cookies, so enjoy this delicious treat by the spoonful. It's the perfect afternoon snack or dessert.
Substitutions And Additions
protein powder- I have made this recipe both ways and found I liked the flavor better without the protein powder. However, this is completely personal preference and the flavor will change depending on what brand of protein you use. If you are weight training and need lots of protein in your diet add a scoop of your favorite vanilla protein powder and reduce the almond flour by ¼ cup to get the perfect consistency.
honey- Any liquid sweetener will work well with this recipe. Try pure maple syrup or agave syrup for substitutes for honey.
chocolate chips- I like mini chocolate chips because it adds just enough sweetness but feel free to use either dark chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips in this recipe.
almond flour- I have not tested this recipe with any other flours, so I can not say whether coconut flour or oat flour could be substituted.
peanut butter- Next time I make this I will definitely add a couple tablespoons of peanut butter because that is my absolute favorite cookie flavor! Almond butter and cashew butter would also be great additions.
Storage
Store leftover edible protein cookie dough in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
