    What Is Cottage Cheese?

Cottage cheese is made by adding an acid to pasteurized milk. Because cottage cheese is a fresh cheese (meaning it is not aged) it has a very mild flavor. This makes it very versatile for many different recipes.

Cottage cheese is also a very healthy option because it is low in calories and high protein. It is regarded as being one of the healthiest cheeses and added to the meal plan of many athletes. One cup of regular cottage cheese contains 25 grams of protein making it a great option for breakfast, lunch or a snack!

Many people are not a fan of cottage cheese because of the texture of the curds. Smooth cottage cheese may be the solution!

    Equipment Needed

food processor - will blend the cottage cheese into a smooth creamy consistency in just a few seconds. You can also use a high-speed blender or immersion blender.

    Key Ingredients

cottage cheese- The type of cottage cheese is not as important as making sure you use a good quality cottage cheese. You can use either full-fat cottage cheese or low fat cottage cheese for this recipe.

    Step-By-Step Instructions

Add all of the ingredients to the base of a food processor. Blend for a few seconds and remove the lid and scrap the sides and bottom of the bowl. Pulse for a few more seconds or until the cottage cheese is perfectly smooth.

    Topping Ideas

When building a bowl portion the blended cottage cheese into 3 containers. This works great for meal prep because you can add the fruit and honey to the cottage cheese and sprinkle the granola on right before eating so that it doesn't get soggy. Here are a few of my favorite toppings.

sweet bowl- fruit, granola, chia seeds, nuts, honey, maple syrup, peanut butter, protein powder and chocolate chips.

savory bowl- cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, fresh herbs and red pepper flakes. Remember to blend the cottage cheese without cinnamon, honey and vanilla extract if planning to build savory bowls. You can add a pinch of sea salt and black pepper instead.

Adding the whipped cottage cheese to a bowl and topping with berries, granola and honey.

How To Use Whipped Cottage Cheese

Blended cottage cheese is very versatile. It can be substituted for Greek yogurt or sour cream in many dishes. I made a sweet version with honey, cinnamon and vanilla extract but you can also make a savory version by omitting these ingredients and blending the cottage cheese plain. It can be used in sauces and dips. Here are a few of my favorite ways to use blended cottage cheese.

    • breakfast bowls- use any kind of fresh fruit, granola, nuts, seeds, chia seeds, and a drizzle of honey or pure maple syrup.
    • dip- make a healthier version of your favorite veggie dip by substituting the mayo and sour cream for blended cottage cheese.
    • spread- on toast like my favorite cottage cheese toast recipe. This is great if you do not like the texture of curds!
    • cottage cheese ice cream- this protein packed treat is much healthier than traditional ice cream!

    Can I Blend Cottage Cheese?

Yes! Cottage cheese can be blended until perfectly smooth. This is perfect for anyone that does not care for the texture of curds. No additional liquid is required but you can add flavorings such as honey to sweeten the cheese.

Why Are People Blending Cottage Cheese?

Many people blend cottage cheese because they do not care for the texture of the curds. When blended it has a smooth texture similar to yogurt or sour cream.

Blended cottage cheese can be added to recipes, made into dips and even ice cream.

What Does Blended Cottage Cheese Taste Like?

Blended cottage cheese still tastes like cottage cheese but has a creamy texture similar to yogurt or sour cream. It is a very mild tasting cheese. You can add flavorings to the blended cottage cheese so that it is either sweet or savory. Blended cottage cheese is very versatile and the flavor possibilities are endless!

    Drizzling the bowl with honey.

How Long Does Blended Cottage Cheese Last?

Once cottage cheese is opened it is best to eat it within 5-7 days.

    Storage Recommendations

Blended cottage cheese should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. The easiest way is to store it in the original container.

A spoonful of whipped cottage cheese.
