This healthy beverage takes only a few minutes to make and gives a little extra flavor boost to plain water along with a few health benefits. It has a bright lemon and light cucumber flavor.
There are so many detox drinks on the market that can become quite expensive! Not only is this lemon cucumber water an easy recipe to make, it is really inexpensive too!
Health Benefits Of Drinking Water
Staying hydrated is one of the most important things we can do for our health. Too frequently we reach for coffee, tea, soda, sports drinks or alcohol instead of a cup of cold water.
When our bodies do not have enough water we become dehydrated. Dehydration can cause headaches, tiredness, moodiness, brain fog and constipation. Also if you are an athlete it is difficult to preform at your best when your body is not properly hydrated.
On a hot summer day cucumber lemon water is a refreshing drink. Drinking a glass of water is a great way for anyone wanting to improve their overall health. While the actual benefits of drinking infused water is anecdotal there is no denying that drinking more water in general is a good idea!
By simply drinking more water it can aid in weight loss, promote healthy skin and helps maintain blood pressure. Drinking more water is important to any healthy diet.
Key Ingredients
lemon- adding fresh lemon slices to water will not only add a great flavor but adds vitamin c.
cucumber- I prefer English cucumber or Persian cucumbers because because they have fewer seeds, but any kind of cucumber will work. Make sure to cut your cucumber slices thin so they infuse more in the water.
ginger root- ginger root is the root of the ginger plant. It has many health benefits due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Ginger root can aid with nausea, different types of arthritis and may lower blood sugar.
Fresh ginger root has been used for centuries as natural remedies for morning sickness, motion sickness or just a simple upset stomach. It helps aid in good digestion too!
thyme- fresh thyme sprigs give the water a lite herbal flavor.
Step-By-Step Instructions
Wash the lemon, cucumber and ginger. You can peel the ginger but it really isn't necessary. Use a sharp knife to thinly slice the fruit and vegetables.
Add all of the ingredients into a large pitcher. I like to tie the sprigs of thyme together into a little bundle. Add cold filtered water to the pitcher.
For best results, you will need to let the ingredients sit in the water and infuse for at least an hour or longer to get the maximum flavor. I like to make a pitcher at night so that I have infused water to drink by the morning.
How Long Does Lemon Cucumber Water Last?
You can refill the pitcher with fresh water a couple times throughout the day. After a couple days, I will throw out the cucumber, lemon and ginger slices and make a fresh pitcher.
Storage
It is best to keep the lemon cucumber ginger water in the refrigerator and not at room temperature.
