I've always loved the fresh minty flavors of a classic mojito, but there are times I'd prefer a non-alcoholic drink. This virgin strawberry mojito recipe is the perfect solution. It has the perfect strawberry flavor without being overly sweet. It will quench your thirst on a hot day by the pool or the beach.
And the best part is that this easy drink recipe is low calorie.
What Is A Mojito Mocktail?
A mojito is a cocktail made with mint, simple syrup, limes, white rum and club soda. The classic mojito recipe originated in Cuba. Mojitos are usually associated as a summertime drink, because of its fresh flavors, however mojitos can be enjoyed year round.
It is easy to make this drink into a mocktail by simply omitting the rum from the drink. This way you can enjoy a non-alcoholic strawberry mojito at anytime.
Key Ingredients
mint- fresh mint leaves are an essential ingredient in mojito recipes. There is really no substitute to the flavor and aroma the mint sprigs adds to the drink.
lime juice- fresh lime juice is a must in this recipe. Squeeze a couple of limes and add lime slices for the best flavor.
Step-By-Step Instructions
Add sliced strawberries and turbinado sugar to a highball glass or other tall glass. Use a muddler or the end of a wooden spoon to smash the strawberries. You will want to smash them well to release their juice. This is what will give your delicious mocktail that strawberry flavor.
Next add the lime juice and mint leaves. You will want to very gently muddle the mint. This is to just slightly bruise them to release their flavor.
Fill the glass with ice cubes and garnish with lime slices. Pour the club soda to fill the glass.
Stir the strawberry mixture and top with an additional mint sprig.
Substitutions And Additions
club soda-can be substituted with soda water, lemon-lime soda or seltzer water.
turbinado sugar- white sugar, brown sugar or simple syrup can be substituted for the turbinado sugar.
strawberries- I love the flavor from fresh strawberries, but you can use frozen strawberries or different fresh fruit like blueberries or blackberries.
Expert Tips
It is best to gently muddle the mint gently to release the juices. The leaves do not need to be ripped and smashed. Being to aggressive with muddling the mint will actually result in a more bitter flavor so be gentle and just give the mint 3-4 twists with the muddler.
