Chicken is my go-to protein of choice because it something everyone in the family can agree on. My favorite chicken dinners are these Boneless Chicken Thighs and Bruschetta Chicken because they are simple and easy to make.

Why You'll Love This Baked Chicken Drumstick Recipe!

If you need a reliable, weeknight-friendly chicken recipe, this is it. These crispy baked drumsticks come together with just a handful of pantry ingredients and are ready in under an hour, making them perfect for busy nights when you still want something hearty and satisfying.

Here are more reasons why it belongs in your regular dinner rotation:

    • Simple ingredients: Everything you need is already in your pantry.
    • Crispy skin: The drumstick's skin is perfectly crispy on all sides.
    • Budget-friendly: It's irresistibly good and won't break the bank.
    • Ready in under an hour: It's quick to prepare and takes about 45 minutes of baking.
    • Family approved: Drumsticks are fun to eat, and a hit with the whole family.

    Equipment Needed

    • Rimmed baking sheet
    • Wire cooking rack
    • Aluminum foil
    • Large mixing bowl
    • Paper towels
    • Meat thermometer

    Key Ingredients

Chicken drumsticks: The star of the show. Fresh or thawed from frozen, both work well for this recipe.

Olive oil: Helps the spices stick to the chicken and promotes browning. You can also use avocado oil.

Smoked paprika: It adds slight smokiness and gives the skin a beautiful, deep color.

Paprika: It's milder than the smoked paprika; it balances the smoky flavor and rounds out the overall flavor.

Seasoned salt: Pulls the whole spice blend together and seasons the chicken evenly.

Onion powder: Adds savory flavor without adding extra moisture, which is important in achieving crispy skin.

Freshly ground black pepper: It makes a distinct difference and elevates the overall flavor of the dish.

    Step-By-Step Instructions

Preheat your oven to 425°F. A properly preheated oven is the key to achieving the perfect crisp skin for chicken drumstick oven-baked recipes. Prep your pan by lining a baking sheet with aluminum foil and setting a wire cooking rack on top.

Pat each drumstick thoroughly dry with a paper towel. Don't skip this step, as it is important to remove excess moisture to achieve the crispy skin.

Add the drumsticks to a large mixing bowl. Drizzle with olive oil over the top, then add all of the spices. Use your hands to rub the mixture evenly onto each drumstick, making sure each is well coated.

Place the drumsticks on the wire rack in a single layer, making sure there is enough space between them. The spacing allows hot air to circulate all around the chicken.

Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, flipping at the half way point. The internal temperature reaches 175°F on a meat thermometer. The skin should look golden and start to pull away from the bone.

To achieve the crispiest skin possible, move the baking sheet under the broiler on high for the last 2-3 minutes of cooking. Keep an eye on the drumsticks so you'll avoid burning them.

These chicken drumsticks are best served right out of the oven while the skin is still at its crispiest.

    Serving Recommendations

To make the chicken drumsticks a complete dinner, here are a few ideas that pair perfectly:

    • Mashed potatoes and roasted green beans.
    • Coleslaw, cornbread, and mac and cheese.
    • Steamed white rice and a simple side salad
    • Roasted vegetables like broccoli, asparagus, or carrots.
    • Crescent rolls are always great with any meal!

    Storage

If by any chance there are leftovers, store them in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 4 days.

If you want to store them longer, let the drumsticks cool completely, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag or container. They will keep up for about 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.

For best results, reheat in the oven or air fryer at 375°F for 10 to 15 minutes. This helps bring back some of that crispy skin. The microwave works in a pinch, but it will soften the skin.
