Why You'll Love Blended Overnight Oats!
I have made many classic overnight oats recipes over the years, but never tried blended oats. Blended overnight oats have a thick creamy texture, almost like a pudding consistency. You can take any base recipe, minus the toppings and blend into this ultra creamy oatmeal recipe.
I've been hooked on overnight oats for our breakfast for awhile. They are so easy to prepare and the flavor options are really endless. Plus I love that is is a nourishing breakfast option made with wholesome whole grains.

Equipment Needed
high power blender- I love my Vitamix blender because it blends everything so well but any blender can do the job.
mason jars- are perfect for storing overnight oats, but any sealable container will work.
Key Ingredients
old-fashioned oats- also called rolled oats, are the best type of oats for overnight oatmeal. Old-fashioned oats have a bit chewier texture than the quick oat variety that is more processed.
almond milk- I always have almond milk on hand but feel free to use your favorite type of milk.
honey- gives the oatmeal a little sweetness (I forgot to include it in the ingredients picture).
Step-By-Step Instructions
Add the milk, oats, chia seeds, honey, almond butter and cinnamon to the base of a blender or food processor.
Blend the mixture to the desired consistency. My blended oat mixture still had a bit of oat texture with a very creamy consistency.
Portion the oat mixture into mason jars or other sealable containers. Sprinkle flaked coconut and chocolate chips over the top of the oats.
Seal the jars and place in the refrigerator to soak. The oats need at least 4 hours or preferably overnight for the best results.
Storage Recommendations
Store overnight oats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Overnight oats can also be frozen for up to 3 months.
Substitutions And Additions
almond milk- any type of milk will work for this recipe. You can use a dairy-free milk such as soy milk, coconut milk or oat milk. Or regular whole milk will also work. Substitute using the same amount of milk. Just remember the nutritional information will change because this recipe was calculated using unsweetened almond milk.
honey- to make this a vegan recipe you can substitute pure maple syrup for the honey.
mini chocolate chips- I like the mini chocolate chips but feel free to use any chocolate chip for the recipe or omit them.
fresh fruit- this blended overnight oats recipe can be topped in so many different ways. You can add fresh berries or fresh fruit and omit the coconut and chocolate chips. It really depends on your personal preferences.
almond butter- you can also use a tablespoon of peanut butter instead of the almond butter in this recipe. Use either crunchy or creamy peanut butter.
protein powder- if you are wanting to add extra protein to the blended oatmeal you can add a scoop of your favorite protein powder. There are plenty of great options and even plant-based protein powder for vegan dietary needs.
How Long Are Overnight Oats Good For?
Overnight oats are the perfect make-ahead breakfast because they will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Make a double batch for breakfast for the entire week.
Can I Use Quick Oats For Overnight Oats?
While the preferred type of oat for overnight oats is old-fashioned oats, you can use quick oats. Quick oats are more processed than old-fashioned oats so that they cook faster. This means that they will soak up the liquid quicker and can become a bit mushier faster. It is best to eat overnight oats made with quick oats within 48 hours for the best results.
Can You Freeze Overnight Oats?
Yes! Overnight oats can be frozen for up to 3 months for the best texture. If you are planning to freeze a batch of overnight oats, freeze them immediately after preparing the recipe. They will soak as they defrost.
To thaw, place the oats in the refrigerator the night before so they can defrost by the next day.

I love this recipe! Although I did end up having to modify it a little because I didn’t have Almond milk and I wanted to keep the values low. So I used a container of Pure Protein liquid meal replacement plus some water to make the 2 cups of liquid. And since it’s already sweetened, I omitted the honey/syrup. I also split it 4 ways instead of 3.
