My husband dreamed up the recipe for Bang Bang Salmon a few years ago. He had the idea for a spicy salmon with Sriracha but when we looked for recipes everything seemed waaayy too hot! We have to keep in mind how much spice we use because we are cooking for my mother and mother in law too. I adjusted the amount of Sriracha quite a bit and added a few other flavors to mellow the spice. The final result was a recipe my husband went crazy over! He said it was THE BEST SALMON he’s ever had, better than any restaurant!! The best part is this marinade couldn’t be any easier to whip up and only requires 5 ingredients! As much as I love to cook sometimes an easy recipe with just a few ingredients is a relief on a busy night!
How do I prepare Bang Bang Salmon?
I usually buy a fillet of salmon at Costco. For us this is the most cost effective way to shop. I like their salmon because it already has the skin removed-one less thing for me to deal with. I simply cut the piece into 5-6 individual fillets that weight roughly around 4 ounces each. I do trim the ends if its a little thin just so the fish will cook evenly, but I never throw out any of those scrap pieces! I have a freezer bag I keep those scraps in and once I get a couple pounds saved I defrost and make salmon cakes. Salmon is too expensive and I never want to waste any.
After I’ve cut my fish into fillets I simply add to a zip lock bag and pour the marinade over allowing it to marinade for at least 30 minutes or up to 2 hours. Salmon is not as delicate as certain types of fish and can marinade a little longer without compromising the texture.
How To Grill salmon?
I cook salmon several different ways but for this recipe I always love the results I get from my grill. When we bought our new house my husband convinced me to spend a little extra and get a grill I really wanted! He knew how much I love to grill and didn’t want me to skimp out on this purchase. With a little research help from him I went with the Weber Spirit gas grill. I love how quickly propane grills heat up so I can fire it up even after work! What I love about my Weber grill is the porcelain-enameled, cast-iron cooking grates. For anyone who has cooked with a cast iron skillet this works very similarly. Once used and “seasoned” the grates become non stick! I can cook fish with no worry of it sticking!
What side dishes go well with grilled salmon?
There are so many different side options that pair well with salmon. Because this dish has a little spice I like to go with something more mellow so the flavors aren’t competing. Roasted sweet potatoes, cucumber salad, or couscous are just a few ideas I’ve tried.
