Equipment Needed
casserole dish- a 9x13 baking dish is perfect for the cherry cobbler.
Key Ingredients
cherry pie filling- a can of cherry pie filling makes this dessert so much easier. Plus you can make this dessert even when fresh cherries are out of season.
cake mix- a box of yellow cake mix is the perfect buttery cobbler topping for your cherries.
Step-By-Step Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 F. Lightly spray a 9x13 inch casserole dish with cooking spray.
Add both cans of cherry pie filling to the casserole dish. Sprinkle with cinnamon and vanilla extract. Stir to combine and smooth into an even layer.
Add the cake mix over the top of the cherry filling. Top the cake mix with the thin slices of butter.
Bake in preheated oven for 50 minutes or until the cake mix is golden brown. After the first 10 minutes use a spatula to even out any melted butter that is not covering dry cake mix.
Serving Suggestions
Serve this cherry cobbler recipe warm or at room temperature with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped topping.
Storage
Store leftover cherry cobbler in an airtight container for 3-4 days. Reheat for 60-90 seconds in the microwave. If your baking dish does not have a lid you can use aluminum foil or plastic wrap to cover.
Substitutions And Additions
cake mix- I like the buttery flavor of yellow cake mix, but you can use a box of white cake mix too.
cinnamon- you can use other spices like nutmeg, cardamon or ginger. Or to make this even easier you can omit the spices all together.
vanilla extract- gives an additional flavor to the juicy cherries. You can also use almond extract if you prefer.
