Equipment Needed
microwave-safe bowl- glass bowls are always the best choice for melting chocolate or almond bark in the microwave.
What Is Almond Bark And Why Is It Called Almond Bark?
Vanilla almond bark is a confectionary coating used to dip or cover nuts, fruits, pretzels or cookies. It does not contain any almonds but got its name for what it was originally used for, coating almonds.
There is chocolate and white almond bark but neither variety actually contain any chocolate.
Almond Bark VS White Chocolate
So which is better for melting and dunking, almond bark or white chocolate? Almond bark was made for melting. It melts very easily in the microwave and stays in a melted consistency longer than white chocolate. If you prefer white chocolate, I do have a few tips for melting white chocolate chips.
Key Ingredients
almond bark- usually sold in a block, found in the baking isle of the grocery store.
pretzels- for this recipe I used Utz holiday shaped pretzels, but any kind of pretzels will work.
Step-By-Step Instructions
Chop the almond bark into small pieces and add it to a microwave safe bowl. Melt almond bark in the microwave on high power for 90 seconds, stirring every 30 seconds. Almond bark melts a little differently than white chocolate. If substituting white chocolate, I have tips for melting chocolate in the microwave too.
Once the almond bark is melted you can dip the pretzels. Coat each side well. I use lollipop sticks to dunk and remove from the melted almond bark. You can use skewers or a fork too. Shake well to remove any excess almond bark from the pretzel.
After dunking each pretzel, place in a single layer on a wax paper or parchment paper lined baking tray. Quickly add sprinkles to the dipped pretzel because the thin layer of candy coating will harden quickly. Once all of the pretzels are coated and decorated allow to harden for at least 30 minutes or until the coating is dry.
Storage Suggestions
The best part about this almond bark dipped pretzels recipe is that they last for up to two weeks in the airtight container or resealable plastic bag. Keep them stored at room temperature for the perfect crunchy pretzel texture.
Substitutions
Any shape of pretzel will work well for this recipe. Here are a few types to try.

small pretzel sticks
