These tiramisu cups are great to serve at a dinner party because they are the perfect hand held single serving size. No need to worry about serving your guests, they can grab this treat and mingle while eating a delicious coffee soaked dessert. Plus with this being an eggless tiramisu recipe anyone who has an aversion to traditional tiramisu made with egg will be able to enjoy!

A traditional tiramisu recipe has a combination of egg yolk, mascarpone and heavy cream. I decided to make this tiramisu eggless because even though the traditional method for making this classic tiramisu calls for raw egg yolks, there are many people that are turned off to eating raw eggs.
Mascarpone is a type of cheese that originates from Italy. It has a similar texture to cream cheese but a different flavor. If you are going to substitute cream cheese you will need to add a few other ingredients to get the right flavor.
You may use either a strong coffee or espresso to soak the lady fingers. Allow the coffee to cool first before soaking the cookies.
I add a little Kahlua which is a coffee liqueur. You can substitute with any kind of alcohol you have on hand. A dark rum or brandy will work well. Or you can make this without alcohol and add vanilla extract.
Lady fingers or savoiardi biscuits are an Italian cookie. When shopping for this make sure that you buy a crunchy variety and not the type that are like sponge cake. Remember these are soaked in the coffee mixture so they will soften.
A few of these ingredients may be unfamiliar to you but are easily found at your local grocery store.
How to
If you have never made this classic Italian dessert these delicious tiramisu cups are a little easier because we are eliminating the eggs. In a large mixing bowl mix powdered sugar, mascarpone and heavy cream with an electric mixer. This mixture will become slightly fluffy.
Then in a separate bowl with clean mixing attachments beat heavy whipped cream with powdered sugar and and Kahlua to form stiff peaks.
If you have never made homemade whipped cream it takes a few minutes for this process. A few tips is to start with a cold bowl and mixing attachments. You can put these in the refrigerator for a few minutes before starting the cream. Start on a low setting and gradually increase to a medium speed, mixing for a couple minutes until soft peaks form. Once your cream mixture is starting to take shape the stiff peaks form, meaning that the cream will stand on its own when the beaters are lifted. Do not over mix at this point because it will begin to curdle.
Once the cream has been whipped gently fold in half of the whipped cream into the mascarpone cheese mixture.
Next soak then lady finger in the cooled coffee mixture. I dunk mine quickly for about 5 seconds making sure both sides soak in a little coffee. Then fit the dipped lady finger inside the bottom of the cup. I broke mine in half to fit inside the cup.
Then with a piping bag or a spoon add a layer of the mascarpone mixture on top of lady finger. Then repeat layers by adding another layer of soaked ladyfinger cookies and mascarpone cream.
Repeat this process with all cups. Then add a small layer of the plain whipped cream on top. I used a spatula to smooth to the top of the cup.
After all of the cups are assembled, dust with unsweetened cocoa powder. To garnish you can add a half of a lady finger to the top to garnish or dark chocolate shavings.
Chef’s Tips
- Let the mascarpone come to room temperature to make it easier to mix.
- This recipe is best if made ahead at least 4 hours.
- Always keep the tiramisu cups refrigerated until ready to serve.
- When making whipped cream always start with a cold heavy whipped cream. My grandmother always chilled the bowl and mixer’s beaters in the refrigerator before hand.
- If you decorate the tops before serving it is easier to store in the refrigerator.
How to store tiramisu
Because of the cream and mascarpone cheese in tiramisu this dessert must be refrigerated. It is best to cover the tops of the dessert with plastic wrap and do the final decorating to the top of the dessert cups right before serving.
Tiramisu will keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Individual Tiramisu Cups {Easy Tiramisu Recipe without Eggs}

- 8 ounces mascarpone, room temperature
- 1 ½ cups heavy cream, divided
- ⅓ heaping cup powdered sugar, divided
- ¾ cup strong brewed coffee
- kalua, divided
- lady fingers
Instructions
- Brew a strong cup of coffee. Allow to cool while mixing together other ingredients.
- In a medium sized bowl add softened mascarpone, ¼ cup powdered sugar and ¼ cup heavy cream. Beat on low for 60 seconds with a hand mixer until the mixture is smooth.
- In a large bowl mix together the remaining 1 ¼ cup of heavy cream, remaining 2 tablespoons powdered sugar and 2 teaspoons of Kahlua. Beat with hand mixer for 2-3 minutes on medium speed until soft peaks form.
- Gently fold half of the whipped cream into the mascarpone with a spatula.
- Break lady finger cookies in half. One at a time dip each half into coffee for about 5 seconds to wet front and back of the cookie. Quickly add the cookie to the bottom of the serving glass. Depending on the size of your cup you may be able to put two cookie halves side by side. It is okay if they over lap or if you need to gently press in the corners of the cup. The cookies soften from the coffee making this easier.
- Next add a layer of mascarpone filling. The easiest way is by piping it in with a pastry bag, but you can also spoon it in.
- Repeat with another layer of soaked lady fingers, and mascarpone.
- Spread a small layer of whipped cream on top, smoothing with a spatula. Sprinkle the top with cocoa powder and decorate with a half of a lady finger cookie pressed in the top if desired.
