When I wake up in the morning I immediately go to the coffee pot.  I like to sit and sip my coffee early in the morning usually before anyone else has woken up.  It’s my time to get up, gather my thoughts and prepare for the upcoming day.
Now usually I’m half asleep and trying to be quiet to not disturb everyone who’s asleep so getting out special equipment to make lattes seems a bit much.  However, I’ve come up with my own easy oat milk latte at home recipe.  Would the baristas at the fancy coffee shops approve?  Maybe not but it’s creamy, delicious and gives me my caffeine boost in the morning.

    What is a latte?

I am that person that stares at the menu at Starbucks completely confused.  I was never quite sure of the difference between a latte and a cappuccino.  After a little research I understand that a latte is a ⅓ espresso and ⅔ steamed milk while a cappuccino is a ⅓ espresso, ⅓ steamed milk and ⅓ milk foam.  A latte will have a creamier richer flavor from the milk and less intensity from the espresso, which is probably why I like it so much.A close up of a mug of oat milk latte

    Ingredients For Oat Milk Latte

    • oat milk- check ingredients label if you prefer no added sugar
    • espresso or strong coffee
    • sweetener of choice
    • cinnamon if desired

    Why use Oat Milk?

Oat milk is a great alternative to milk if you are looking for a plant based substitution.  I've used almond milk in my coffee for years but thought I'd give oat milk a try.  It has a great creamy texture that is perfect for lattes. However if you prefer almond milk or another milk alternative you can always give that a try like my Cold Brew with Cinnamon Almond Milk Foam.

    Equipment needed for Latte

    • coffee or espresso maker
    • mason jar

If you have a frothing wand, you are probably already making amazing lattes at home.  But I wanted a way to make them with out special equipment.  So I use a small mason jar.  You could use any jar with a tight fitting lid.

How to make oat milk latte

Of course if you have an espresso maker and a frothing wand you can make these lattes with no problem.  I do not have any special coffee maker- just my regular drip machine.  I brew a fairly strong pot of coffee instead of espresso.  As far as a frothing wand, I skip that and heat my oat milk in a glass mason jar for 30 seconds.  I screw the lid on tight and shake vigorously.  The shaking will create a nice frothy foam perfect for your latte!

That's all you need to make a warm creamy Oat Milk Latte!  I think you will love this recipe and the fact you can skip the lines at the coffee shop!

Great minds think alike! I use oat milk and a mason jar also. I really like Chobani extra creamy. It has a closer milk consistency. The only difference is, I make a pour over instead of brewing in a pot. I find it’s a deeper tasting espresso. I just bought a frother today and am excited try it out.
