Equipment Needed
- Serving Bowl
- Mixing bowl
- Microplane or zester
- Knife
- Chopping board
Key Ingredients
Blueberries - Fresh blueberries are best. Choose firm blueberries with a vibrant color of blue.
Strawberries - Choose bright red strawberries without green or white spots at the tip. In-season strawberries are an excellent choice.
Grapes -Choose red or green or both! Make sure the grapes are seedless.
Blackberries - Choose blackberries with a shiny exterior. Do not use mushy or soft blackberries; they might be overripe.
Pineapple - Choose pineapples that show no signs of browning; they should be bright yellow and have a tropical and sweet aroma. Fresh is always best but in a pinch you can use canned pineapple.
Zest of lime - Choose a lime with a vibrant green skin. Do not use a lime with yellowish and wrinkled skin.
Lime juice - Use freshly squeezed lime juice for the natural flavor.
Honey - Use pure honey to get the best flavor and natural sweetness.
Grand Marnier - Although it is optional, it adds a citrusy taste, that I love with the lime flavor.
By-Step Instructions
It is important to wash the fruits thoroughly before using them.
Cut the fruits uniformly. Cut the grapes in half, slice and hull the strawberries, and cut the pineapple into cubes. Blueberries and blackberries do not need to be cut. You can cut the other fruits into bite-sized pieces.
Make the lime dressing by using the Microplane to zest the lime. Whisk together the lime zest, lime juice, honey, and Grand Marnier until fully incorporated or the honey is dissolved.
Mix the fruits in a large bowl and pour the lime dressing over them. Gently toss to coat all the fruits evenly with the dressing.
Serve immediately, or refrigerate for an hour or two before serving to let the flavors fully incorporate.
Serving Suggestions
Light dessert: Serve this salad as a nutritious and sweet dessert. You can serve it with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
For breakfast or brunch, serve the honey lime fruit salad with pancakes, yogurt, or oats.
Side dish: Pair your salad with grilled meat or seafood.
Meal prep: Store it in a lunch box as an on-the-go meal for school or work.
Make Ahead
Wash and chop fruit the day ahead and add the dressing before serving to keep the fruit fresh and prevent it from becoming too soft.
If you are using bananas, do not add them ahead of time because they will quickly turn brown.
Storage
Store the leftover honey lime fruit salad in an airtight container and refrigerate it for up to two days. It is best to consume it immediately, as these fruits can turn soft quickly.
I do not recommend freezing this fruit salad. It is best to enjoy the honey lime fruit salad fresh.
Substitutions And Additions
Fruits - You can use other fruits like melon, watermelon, raspberries, kiwi, or whichever you like.
Sweeteners - You can use maple syrup or agave nectar instead of honey.
Add-ons - You can also add chia seeds, fresh mint leaves to refresh it, and shredded coconut to add flavor and texture.
