why This Chicken BurGer is the Best!
It's easy to get in a rut and cook the typical menu items week after week, but I love when you can put a spin on a classic and make it a little more interesting. That's exactly what I did with these ground chicken burgers! I used a little Greek inspiration and jazzed up a juicy burger with Mediterranean ingredients.
The best part is that these great burgers take only 10 minutes to prep and cook perfectly on the stove top. When I can make a quick meal that is not only delicious but healthy, that's a win!
I've made burgers using ground chicken or ground turkey for years because I do not eat red meat. If you are looking for a way to make dinner a little healthier for your family, this is a great burger recipe to try! The feta adds a great salty bite to the meat and we have managed to sneak a little bit of veggies in as well!
Key Ingredients
ground chicken- is chicken breasts that are ground similarly to raw ground beef. You can find lean ground chicken in the meat department of your local grocery store.
feta cheese- you can buy either a block of feta or crumbled feta cheese. Make sure to crumble the feta into fine pieces before adding to the mixture.
baby spinach-I prefer to use fresh spinach over frozen spinach in this recipe. Baby spinach has a tender leaf that is a little sweeter than regular spinach.
Greek yogurt- you can use fat free or whole milk yogurt. I prefer the richer flavor of the whole milk variety. This yogurt sauce adds a great tangy flavor to the burger.
Step-By-Step Instructions
If you do not have a grill, a great way to make this is using an indoor grill pan or skillet. Heat your grill pan over medium heat. While waiting for grill pan to preheat make the feta chicken burgers.
In a large bowl add the crumbled feta, chopped spinach, salt, pepper, garlic powder and ground chicken. Roll up your sleeves and use your hands to mix all of the burger ingredients together and form your feta chicken patties. You can make 4 larger patties or 6 smaller depending if you are using regular sized buns or slider buns.
Spray grill pan with olive oil or cooking spray. Place patties on the hot grill and pan fry for 5 minutes before flipping. Use a spatula to flip chicken burger patties and cook for an additional 5-6 minutes. Always check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer when cooking raw meat. According to the FDA poultry is cooked properly once it reaches 165 degrees.
While the chicken burgers are cooking, make the Greek yogurt sauce. Dill is one of my favorite Mediterranean herbs that adds so much flavor to this yogurt sauce. Chop the dill very fine. Add the dill, lemon zest, lemon juice, salt and pepper to the Greek yogurt. Stir well with a whisk. I love this sauce to eat with sliced cucumbers so feel free to double the recipe!
Slice your tomato, cucumber, red onion and any other toppings you'd like to add to your burgers.
Serving Suggestions
You can serve a feta spinach chicken burger on a bun or ciabatta rolls. If you are following special diets and need options with fewer calories or a low carb option make this into a salad or a lettuce wrap. Either way this ground chicken burger is delicious! Add sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, sliced red peppers along with the delicious tangy lemon dill sauce. Or for you can buy a premade tzatziki sauce.
Need suggestions on how to complete this meal? Here's a few side dishes to pair with your chicken feta spinach burgers.
- Parmesan Truffle Fries {Air Fryer Recipe}- French fries are perfect with any good burger!
- Mediterranean Green Beans with Lemon Dressing- complements the flavor of the Greek chicken burgers.
- Air Fryer Frozen Sweet Potato Fries- are sweeter than regular fries and are a nice change if you are in the mood for something different.
Make Ahead Tips
You can make the patties and the yogurt dill sauce ahead for those busy nights. Simply make the chicken patties and cover with plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. The yogurt sauce will keep for 1-2 days when stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
These are also great reheated if you have leftovers. Place the chicken pattie in the microwave for 1-2 minutes to reheat before adding the toppings.
Expert Tips
- Crumble the feta into very fine pieces and chop the spinach into small pieces so that it mixes into the meat well.
- Always cook raw poultry to the recommended cooking temperature of 165 degrees. Use a meat thermometer to test the temperature.
