Equipment Needed
- Stand mixer or hand mixer
- Large mixing bowl
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Rubber spatula
- #40 cookie scoop
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper
- Cooling rack
Key Ingredients
Unsalted butter: Use a room-temperature butter to create a tender cookie base. It also creams more easily with sugar, which helps create that classic chewy texture.
Granulated sugar and brown sugar: The combination of white and brown sugar balances sweetness and moisture. Brown sugar adds a subtle caramel flavor and keeps the cookies soft.
Eggs: Provide structure and add moisture. Beating them one at a time helps fully incorporate them into the dough.
All-purpose flour: It also gives the cookies structure. Make sure to measure it properly to prevent dense cookies.
Salt and baking soda: Salt enhances the chocolate flavor, and baking soda helps the cookies rise and spread evenly.
M&M candies: Use Valentine-colored M&Ms to give these cookies a festive look. It will instantly transform the cookies into classic Valentine's Day cookies.
Semi-sweet chocolate chips: Adding chocolate chips ensures every bite is packed with melty chocolate.
Sprinkles: An optional addition for that extra pop of color.

Step-By-Step Instructions
Start by preheating your oven to 375°F and lining a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the softened butter with both sugars on medium speed until light and fluffy. This usually takes 2 to 3 minutes and helps create a soft cookie texture.
Add the vanilla extract and eggs, one at a time, and mix well after each addition.
Gradually add the flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix just until well combined. Avoid overmixing, which can make cookies tough.

Using a spatula, gently fold in the M&M candies and chocolate chips.
Scoop the dough using a #40 cookie scoop. Leave enough space between each cookie dough ball since they will spread while baking.
Bake for 10-11 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers look just set.
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack.

Make Ahead
You can prepare the dough up to 48 hours in advance and store it in the refrigerator, covered. Let it sit at room temperature for about 20 to 30 minutes before scooping and baking.
You can also scoop the dough into balls and freeze them. Bake directly from frozen, adding 1 to 2 minutes to the baking time.

Storage
Store the baked Valentine's M&M cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 to 3 days.
For longer storage, freeze the cookies for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature before serving.
