Making your own baked chips is so easy and fun to do at home.  This is even something your kids can help with and make taco night really fun or even just a creative after school snack.

I’ve always loved adding a little lime to give my chips extra flavor.  The citrus salt takes just a few extra minutes to make but makes all the difference in these chips.  You can make the citrus salt ahead of time by zesting the lime, adding it to the salt and allowing the zest to dry completely before storing in an air tight container. Or you can use the citrus salt right away.

How to make lime tortilla chips?

In a small bowl add zest of one lime and an equal amount of sea salt.  I had about a teaspoon of each.  In another bowl add olive oil and lime juice.  Brush tortillas with lime juice mixture on both sides.  Be generous with your brushing to evenly coat tortillas.  Then cut your tortillas into 8 triangles.

Line tortilla triangles on baking sheet in a single layer.  Sprinkle with citrus salt mixture.  I like sprinkling with the salt and lime zest before I bake the chips because I find it helps the salt mixture stick better.  This may be a lot of salt so if you have extra you can always save it because it keeps for a month in an airtight container.  Bake at 350 degrees for about 7-9 minutes watching closely so they do not over brown.

How long do Baked tortilla chips last?

To keep tortilla chips fresh you will want to store them in an airtight container.  The tortilla lime chips will stay fresh for about 5-7 days.  They have a great flavor from the citrus salt but not at all over powering.  They are the perfect accompaniment for salsas and dips!  Try them with my Peach Jalapeño Salsa for a delicious summer appetizer.
