Why You'll Love This Caprese Skewer Appetizer!

If you love the flavors of a caprese salad you will love these caprese salad skewers. With plenty of fresh flavors from the juicy tomatoes and tangy balsamic glaze, this is one fun appetizer that is sure to impress!

This is the perfect appetizer to make during the summer months when you have plenty of fresh produce growing in your garden. But even in the winter months you can make this cold appetizer with fresh ingredients from the grocery store. It is amazing how tasty this appetizer is with just a handful of simple ingredients.

Whenever I'm making appetizers for a party I try to plan plenty of finger foods that are easy to eat. These are the perfect bite-sized appetizer that are perfect to snack on while mingling at a party.

Quick And Easy-Thread the ingredients on a skewer for a quick and easy appetizer recipe. This really is one of the easiest appetizer recipes to make.

Minimal Ingredients-You only need a handful of ingredients to make this tasty and impressive looking appetizer.

Party Friendly-people love an appetizer that is easy to eat without being messy. Poppable food on a stick is always a great choice.

    Equipment Needed

bamboo picks or small wooden skewers- I prefer little skewers so these are more of a bite-sized appetizer. You can easily find these at a party supply store or even your grocery store.

    Key Ingredients

tomatoes-small juicy cherry tomatoes or grape tomatoes work best for this bite sized appetizer.

mini mozzarella balls- you can find these in most grocery stores in the specialty cheese section. I like BelGioioso brand that sells packets of snacking cheese. They are the perfect size for the appetizer.

fresh basil leaves- I have fresh basil growing in a little pot outside so I have fresh basil pretty much year around. You can buy fresh basil leaves in the produce section of the grocery store too.

olive oil- get a good quality olive oil for drizzling over the skewers.

balsamic glaze- you can buy balsamic glaze or make your own balsamic reduction with this simple 1 ingredient recipe.

salt and pepper- I like to crack a little black pepper and sea salt for the best flavor for the caprese kabobs.

The ingredients needed to make caprese skewers.

    Step-By-Step Instructions

You can really assemble these to fit your preference. I like to alternate the tomatoes and fresh mozzarella balls with basil leaves in between. Thread the ingredients onto the bamboo skewers.

Threading the ingredients on the bamboo skewers.

Once you have assembled all of the caprese skewers arrange them on a serving platter or plate. Sprinkle with sea salt and fresh cracked pepper. Then add a drizzle of balsamic glaze and olive oil to complete the appetizer.

    Make Ahead

This caprese skewers recipe can be made a few hours ahead. The basil leaves could get a little brown and wilted if making it further in advance. I would wait until serving to drizzle with the balsamic glaze and olive oil.

    Storage

If you have any leftovers, store in an airtight container for 1-2 days. The basil may not look as pretty but it will still taste good.

    Substitutions And Additions

additional seasoning- add additional flavor with a sprinkle of Italian seasoning. You can also add fresh oregano to the mini skewers.

    Expert Tips

    • If your fresh basil leaves are very large, cut the large leaves in half. Too much basil can be overpowering for these caprese bites.
    • Use a homemade balsamic glaze instead of just balsamic vinegar. When you add the balsamic drizzle it clings to the ingredients better than regular balsamic vinegar.
    • Get bite-sized mozzarella balls. The best way to make these mini skewers is to use tomatoes and fresh mozzarella cheese balls that are close to the same size.
