Brow sugar - It adds a nice caramel flavor.

    Step-By-Step Instructions

Start by preparing the oven. Preheat the oven to 200°F—line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Lightly spray the parchment paper with non-stick spray.

Make the toffee by melting the butter in a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the corn syrup, brown sugar, and salt.

Stir occasionally, let the mixture bubble. Once it starts boiling, set a timer for 5 minutes and stir constantly.

Take the pan off the heat and add the baking soda to the mixture; it'll puff up and thicken immediately.

Coat the pretzels by pouring the toffee over them in a large bowl, and stir to coat them as evenly as possible.

Divide the pretzels between the two trays. Sprinkle half of the Heath bits on top. Place the two trays in the preheated oven and bake for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes, to help everything coat evenly and prevent clumping.

Remove the trays from the oven and sprinkle the remaining Heath bits over the pretzels. Let them cool completely before breaking apart and storing.

    Expert Tips

    • Spread out over two large, rimmed baking trays. This makes it easier to stir, and they won't clump as much. Packaging as gifts or simply devouring them is easier with this method as well.
    • Cool them completely before storing to prevent them from becoming soggy.

    Serving Suggestions

You can add this to your holiday snack boards. Make it a Christmas gift by using holiday tins or gift bags. I love using clear cellophane for packaging and sealing it with ribbon and Christmas gift tags. You can also use a jar and place them on the counter if they're for home snacks, although they might not last long.

    Storage

Once they are completely cool, store your butter toffee pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature. They can stay fresh for up to two weeks, though it might only last for a few days with your sweet tooth monsters, I mean, lovers at home!
