Why this Whipped ricotta appetizer recipe is the best!

Ricotta is a delicious cheese on its own but when it is whipped the creamy ricotta has a completely different light and airy texture. Adding the drizzle of honey gives the whipped ricotta recipe a slight sweetness that works well with this mild cheese. Whipped ricotta with honey is versatile enough to be an elegant appetizer or a light snack to serve before dinner.

    Key ingredients

whole milk ricotta cheese-is a creamy mild flavored Italian whey cheese similar to the texture of cream cheese.

heavy cream-helps gives the ricotta a smooth creamy texture.

honey- gives the ricotta a slightly sweet flavor.
pomegranate arils- is totally optional garnish but gives this appetizer a beautiful pop of color. The bright red is the perfect way to enhance your holiday cheese board.

    Ingredients to make whipped ricotta.

    Step-by-step instructions

Add the ricotta, heavy cream, salt and 2 teaspoons of honey to a medium sized bowl. Use a hand mixer or a stand mixer to beat the ricotta at a high speed until it is smooth and creamy. This will take a couple of minutes.

As the mixture is whipped you will see it almost doubles in volume as air is being whipped into the cheese.

Adding the whipped ricotta, honey, cream and salt to a bowl to mix.

Once the cheese is whipped, add the ricotta mixture to a serving bowl. Drizzle honey and sprinkle pomegranate arils and pepitas if desired.

    Serving suggestions

Creamy whipped ricotta is delicious on grilled bread or pita chips. Get your favorite to spread or dunk into this delicious appetizer.

You could also make a whipped ricotta crostini by toasting your own French bread and spreading the creamy dip on the crostini and then adding the garnishes.

Whipped ricotta cheese is delicious with fresh fruit like apples or sliced strawberries for a lighter option.

    FAQ

How do You Whip Ricotta in a Food Processor?

If you would rather use a food processor you can add all of the ingredients to the base and blend for 30 to 60 seconds or until the cheese looks smooth and creamy. (I just like using a hand mixer because there are less dishes to wash)!

Can you Whip Store Bought Ricotta?

Yes! You can whip store bought or homemade ricotta cheese with the same basic steps. Either choice will give you a delicious and easy appetizer.
