How to Cook Buckwheat Grouts

Learn how to cook buckwheat grouts an ancient grain that has been eaten for centuries in Europe.  Despite it's name buckwheat is not related to wheat and actually is not even a grain, but a seed!  Because of this buckwheat is perfect for any one eating a gluten-free diet!  Learn how to cook buckwheat in just a few simple steps, it is just as easy to cook as white rice.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup buckwheat grouts
  • 2 cups water
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  • First toast the buckwheat in the same pan you will be cooking in. Keep heat to medium and stir for a couple minutes. You will begin to smell the buckwheat toasting. It has a nutty almost popcorn like smell.
  • Next add the water, olive oil, and salt.
  • Cover pan and cook for 10-12 minutes.
  • After 10 minutes remove lid, stir and water should be absorbed. If needed cook for an extra minute or until water is absorbed.
