Why These Mini Chocolate Ganache Tarts Are The Best
When I'm making a recipe to serve a crowd I want something that is not only delicious but easy! These dark chocolate tarts are the perfect bite size treat for a dinner party or special occasions. Each bite has a delicious rich chocolate flavor all inside a crispy phyllo shell. While this is an easy chocolate dessert to make it looks a little fancier and will really wow your guests!
Key Ingredients
I love this tart recipe because there are only 3 simple ingredients for the tarts and it is a no-bake recipe! The additional toppings are totally optional and can change for your preferences.
I used bittersweet chocolate to make the rich dark chocolate stand out against the sweet caramel drizzle. You can use a semisweet chocolate or milk chocolate if you want something a little sweeter. Chocolate chips are a great option too because there is no need for breaking or chopping and they will melt well.
The phyllo shells are the essential ingredient that makes these mini tarts so easy! This eliminates the fuss of a tart pan and baking a crust! If you have never used these cute little premade tartlet shells, they are found in the freezer section of your grocery store. They have already been baked so there is no need to bake this dessert. These shells can be used for sweet or savory appetizers. Another of my favorite mini desserts is my Mini Key Lime Pie Bites.
Step-By-Step Instructions
To make the tarts there are only a few simple steps to follow. Start by simmering the heavy cream on your stove top in a small saucepan over low heat. You do not need to bring it to a boil you just want it warm enough to melt the chocolate.
Next chop or break the chocolate bars into small pieces. Add the chocolate to a heat resistant glass bowl.
Pour the heated cream over the chocolate. Allow the heat of the cream to melt the chocolate for a minute.
Then use a spatula or a wire whisk to stir the cream and chocolate until all of the chocolate has completely melted.
Then add the tart filling to the phyllo shells. I used a spoon to place in the creamy chocolate filling. Each tart got about a tablespoon. This does not have to be perfect! Keep the tart shells in the trays when you fill them because it will make it easier to store until you are ready to serve. Then you can move them onto a pretty serving tray and decorate.
After filling all of the phyllo shells allow the chocolate to harden. Place the trays in the refrigerator for an hour.
How to Serve
After an hour the tarts are ready to serve. If you are making these ahead for a party, cover the tray of tarts with plastic wrap. Decorate right before serving. Fresh fruit, a sprinkle of sea salt or caramel sauce are perfect toppings to contrast the flavor of the rich chocolate tart.
These are best if they come to room temperature before serving.
Chef's Tips
- Do not boil heavy cream, just warm enough to melt the chocolate.
- Store in refrigerator until serving wrapped in plastic wrap.
- Decorate right before serving so toppings look their best!
